According to historical stories, it was Dewi Anjarwati from Mount Kawi and Raden Baron Kusumo from Mount Anjasmoro who fell in love. The two decided to tie the knot in marriage. Just a few days became husband and wife, Dewi anjarwati invited her husband to visit their parents ' house on Mount Anjasmoro.
This intention was opposed by Dewi Anjarwati's parents. According to ancient Javanese tradition, newlywed couples are prohibited from traveling before the age of marriage reaches selapan. This is believed to bring bad luck to the couple. But both insisted on leaving.
On the way, Dewi Anjarwati and Raden Baron Kusumo met with Joko Lelono. Apparently the stranger was captivated by the beauty of Dewi anjarwati at first sight. Joko lelono also challenged Raden Baron Kusumo to a duel for Dewi Anjarwati.
